June 22, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers hit double digits in runs for the third straight game in their 10-5 victory over the Reno Silver Sox at Peccole Park in Reno, Nevada. The Snakes have now won four straight games including the three game sweep over the Silver Sox where they combined to score 36 runs. The win along with a Edmonton Cracker-Cats loss pushes the Vipers lead in the GBL North Division, with 19 games remaining in the first half, to seven games with their 18-7 record.

Calgary wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning as Drew Miller was hit by a pitch, Felix Jose singled, and Darryl Brinkley drove in the game's first run with a double. Travis Drader followed with a double of his own to drive in two more and give his team the 3-0 lead.

The scoring continued an inning later as Patrick Arlis reached on a wild pitch strikeout, Colin Moro walked, and Miller smoked his tenth homerun of the season to double the Vipers lead. Jose doubled and Brinkley cashed him with a RBI single for the 7-0 advantage.

Reno climbed back into the game in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back doubles from Ryan Brown and Ryan Crespi for their first run. Gary Harris smacked a RBI triple and later scored on a passed ball to cut the lead down to 7-3.

John Hattig hit a solo homerun an inning later to bring the Silver Sox within three runs at 7-4.

Jose nailed his eighth homerun in the top of the sixth inning to put Calgary back up by four runs. Brinkley followed by reaching on an error by third baseman Hattig and then stole both second and third base before scoring on a passed ball to make it 9-4.

Reno got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Brett Flowers singled home Ross McCoy to get the Silver Sox as close as they would come at 9-5.

The Vipers closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh inning with a Moro walk, Mejia reaching on an error, and a Nelson Castro RBI fielder's choice for the 10-5 final.

Mejia and Miller both reached base for the 25th game consecutively to start the season while Miller extended his hitting streak to 14 games.

Ryan Schurman (1-0) picked up the victory in his very first start as a Viper.
