Long Beach Armada News Release
The Long Beach Armada were beaten by a pair of familiar faces on Saturday night. Jeff LaRue returned to Blair Field and crushed a 2-Run homerun among three hits to lead the Flyers offense, while Dane De La Rosa closed out the 9th inning of a 7-6 Orange County win by striking out the side.
The Flyers needed 8 innings from their bullpen as SP Matt Merricks left with shoulder soreness. His brother, Charles Merricks (2-0), pitched four innings of relief to earn the win.
The Flyers (17-6) got some great news during the game as SP Troy Cate was picked up by the Milwaukee Brewers.
Mark Okano paced the Flyers early offense with his 11th homerun of the season, which ties him for the league lead.
The rubber match of the three-game series will be Sunday night at 5 with Jeremy Zick on the mound for Orange County.
