Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers collected 20 hits and won seven games in a row for the first time in franchise history with their 10-7 victory over the St. George RoadRunners at Bruce Hurst Field in St. George, Utah. The Vipers got out to a early 10-2 lead but the RoadRunners battled back to score the last five runs of the game to close the eventual margin. Evan Greusel went six innings for the win and gave up only one earned run while striking out three and not walking a batter. After losing their first two games of the season the Vipers have rattled off seven straight and have scored 32 runs over the last three games.

In the top of the first inning Darryl Brinkley singled to centerfield and moved to second base on a Jorge Mejia groundout to shortstop. With two outs and after a Drew Miller walk, Jose Morban knocked in Brinkley with a RBI single. To cap off the frame Patrick Arlis smacked a three-run homerun over the left field wall for his first of the season and the 4-0 early lead.

Calgary added a couple runs an inning later started by a Travis Drader double and Brinkley RBI single. After a steal of second base and moving to third on a passed ball Brinkley scored on Mejia's RBI single for the 6-0 advantage.

St. George got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning with Juan Serrano reaching on a throwing error by second baseman Mejia. Serrano moved to second on Wiki Gonzalez's groundout and scored on Jason Bryan's RBI base hit.

The Vipers got that one run back in the top of the fourth when Jorge Tang and Brinkley singled to put two runners on and Colin Moro plated Tang with a RBI base knock.

Serrano brought a run back to the RoadRunners in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun to cut the lead down to 7-2.

Three more runs were added by the Snakes in the top of the sixth inning for the 10-2 advantage. Brinkley started the inning with a double and after a Mejia base hit, Brinkley scored on Moro's second RBI single of the night. After an intentional walk to Morban, Arlis singled into left field for a run batted in to score Mejia and Moro also cashed on the play with an error by left fielder Serrano.

In his first at-bat with St. George Will Henderson smacked a solo homerun to leadoff the bottom of the seventh inning for the 10-3 score.

The RoadRunners Mike Done walked and Henderson and Liu Rodriquez both singled to load the bases to start off the bottom of the ninth. Brandon Taylor picked up a RBI with a fielder's choice and Brian Martin singled to cash in the second run of the inning. Serrano then reached on an error by shortstop Tang to score Taylor and Gonzalez doubled to score a run and bring St. George within three runs at 10-7.

Greusel (2-0) has now won consecutive starts while Billy Simon (1-2) took the loss. Sean Kramer pitched a perfect one-two-three eighth inning with one strikeout.

Morban went four-for-four on the game with a run, RBI, double, walk, and stolen base. Brinkley ended the night four-for-five with three runs scored, a run batted in, a double, and a stolen base.
