Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths lost their lone game last week, falling to the Knoxville Ice Bears 4-2 in Tennessee on Saturday night. To compensate for the light schedule last week, the Snakes have four games this week in the span of five nights in three different cities. On Tuesday night, Columbus travels to Jacksonville, Fla. to face the Barracudas; Thursday night features a home contest against the Florida Seals; the Cottonmouths will face the Fayetteville FireAntz in North Carolina on Friday night; and then the Snakes return home for a Saturday night showdown with the Huntsville Havoc. Both Tuesday and Friday night's road contests will be simulcast on WCJM 100.9 FM as well as the usual webcast on Live365. Join Mike Vee on play-by-play from Jacksonville and Dana Barker from the WCJM studios on Tuesday night beginning at 7:00 PM EST, while Barker will bring the play-by-play from Fayetteville's Crown Coliseum on Friday night beginning at 7:30 PM EST. UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS Tuesday, February 7 - Columbus at Jacksonville, 7:05 PM EST (Season Series vs. JAX: 5-1-0) The Cottonmouths travel to northeast Florida to take on the Jacksonville Barracudas on Tuesday night. After losing the first game against the Barracudas on October 29, the Snakes have taken the last five meetings between the two teams, outscoring Jacksonville by a combined 27-9 margin. The Barracudas have had 63 different players, including nine different goaltenders, on their roster this season as they search for the right mix to lift them from the SPHL standings basement.
Thursday, February 9 - Florida at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. FLA: 5-2-0) Thursday is ESPN night at the Snake Pit. ESPN will have kiosks throughout the concourse. UPCOMING GAMES AND PROMOTIONS (cont'd) Thursday, February 9 - Florida at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. FLA: 5-2-0) (cont'd) The Seals have dropped their last four meetings with the Snakes since shutting Columbus out 5-0 in Florida on December 10. Except for that game and a 7-2 Cottonmouths victory at home on January 5, each of the games between the two teams has been decided by one goal.
Friday, February 10 - Columbus at Fayetteville, 7:35 PM EST (Season Series vs. FAY: 4-1-0) The Cottonmouths head to Fayetteville, N.C. on Friday night to face the hometown FireAntz at the Crown Coliseum. Chad Rycroft picked up his second shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the FireAntz in the last meeting between the two teams on January 20. After falling to the FireAntz 3-2 at home on November 20, the Snakes have won the last four straight against Fayetteville. In fact, Columbus is the only team in the SPHL that the FireAntz do not have a winning record against so far this season.
Saturday, February 11 - Huntsville at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. HSV: 4-4-1) Saturday night is the 2nd Burger King Chattahoochee Valley Kids 12 & under night. After beginning the season 0-4-1 against the Havoc, the Snakes have reeled off four consecutive wins against Huntsville. The Havoc will visit the Snake Pit twice more this season with two Friday night dates on March 10 and 17, while the Cottonmouths will not travel to Huntsville again in the regular season.
COTTONMOUTHS WEEK IN REVIEW Saturday, February 4 - Columbus 2 at Knoxville 4 (Attendance: 4,126) Two late power play goals by Tim Green and Tylor Keller were not enough as the Snakes fell to the Ice Bears 4-2 on Saturday night in Knoxville.
