The Calgary Vipers closed out the 2008 regular season with a 10-4 loss to the Edmonton Cracker-Cats at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. After the Vipers took an early lead the Cracker-Cats used three three run innings to score nine of their ten runs and go ahead for good. Calgary has dropped nine of their last ten games against Edmonton and finish the season with a 19-24 second half record and a 45-42 overall mark on the campaign.
Carlos Duncan smacked his tenth homerun of the season in the top of the first inning to give Calgary a 1-0 lead. For Duncan it was his 55th career long ball in his four years with the Snakes.
The Cracker-Cats tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning when Marcus Nettles singled, stole second base, and scored on a Jose Morban run batted in base hit.
Drew Miller launched his 19th big fly of the season over the right field wall in the top of the second to give the Vipers back the lead at 2-1.
Edmonton jumped out in front in the bottom of the third inning as they loaded the bases on a Juan Infante walk, and singles from Morban and Chris Van Rossum. Jose Valdez was hit by a pitch to tie the game, Morban scored on a wild pitch, and Jon Pasieka singled home a run for the 4-2 lead.
The game became once again tied in the top of the fourth as Calgary loaded the bases with walks to Miller, Travis Drader, and Jorge Mejia. A two run single hit by Colin Moro evened the score at 4-4.
Right back responded the Cracker-Cats in the bottom of the inning as Nettles singled, Morban was intentionally walked, and Valdez crushed a two-out three run blast for the 7-4 advantage.
For the third time in the game Edmonton scored three runs in an inning as this time in the sixth Infante and Morban singled, Van Rossum walked to load the bases, Valdez knocked in a run with a ground out, and Jonathan Castro plated two more with a two out base hit for the 10-4 lead.
