Smokies Win Second Straight in Jackson

JACKSON, TN - The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Jackson Generals on Sunday night by a score of 7-2. The win gave the Smokies their second straight win and tied the series at two games apiece.

Keegan Thompson got the start for the Smokies and picked up his fourth win in Double-A. Thompson pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits. Thompson also struck out three in his start.

For the second game in-a-row, the Smokies put a run on the scoreboard first. In the top of the third, Jesse Hodges and Connor Myers led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After two quick outs and a walk by Vimael Machin to load the bases, P.J. Higgins singled in Hodges and Myers to make it 2-0.

In the top of the sixth, the Smokies built on their 2-1 lead. A double by Yasiel Balaguert, single by Eddy Martinez and walk by Charcer Burks loaded the bases with no outs. Hodges was the next batter, and he walked to score Balaguert. The Generals recorded the first out of the inning when the next batter, Myers, flew out to right field. But, the out, scored another run to give Tennessee a 4-1 lead.

James Buckelew replaced Thompson in the bottom of the sixth and pitched two innings, allowing one run on two hits and struck out one. In the top of the eighth, the Smokies added a third run to their lead when Balaguert, who reached base on a single to start the inning, scored on a wild pitch.

In the top of the ninth, the Smokies added two more runs to their lead when Martinez singled in Zack Short and Hodges reached on an error to score Higgins.

The Smokies and Generals conclude the series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. ET in Jackson. Duncan Robinson is the projected starter for Tennessee as he looks to break a streak of two straight losses in his last two starts. Robinson is 2-1 on the road this season with a 3.25 ERA. Robinson is 1-0 against Jackson this season.
