Sevierville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (2-0) used a six run second inning to rush past the Mobile BayBears (0-2) 9-6 Friday night at Smokies Park. Chris Weekly capped the second inning with a three run home run off Mobile starter Brad Baker (L, 0-1).
Nick Stocks (W, 1-0) struck out seven over five innings and added a two run double to earn his first win of the season. Rick Ankiel made his first appearance on the mound since 2001 and needed just twelve pitches to get through the sixth inning. Ankiel struck out two and finished the inning by getting Vince Faison looking at a curve ball for strike three. Mike Lyons pitched the ninth inning to earn the save.
The Smokies and BayBears meet again Saturday night at 7:15. Cory Stewart will start for Mobile against Dan Haren.
