Huntsville Stars News Release
Huntsville, AL â After scratching out just six singles and one run in a 7-1 opening night loss to Jacksonville, the Stars' bats awoke on a Fireworks Friday at Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville (1-1) hammered out 15 hits, including six for extra bases, on route to a 10-4 drubbing of the Suns (1-1).
Dave Krynzel and J.J. Hardy led the hit parade, rapping three apiece. Krynzel lashed a two-run triple to right in the fourth, tying the game 3-3. He also singled twice and scored three times in a 3-for-5 night. Hardy's 3-for-5 included a double, two singles and a run scored.
For the second straight night, Ryan Knox pinch-hit for Milwaukee star Geoff Jenkins, and for the second straight game he reached base. Knox bettered his pinch-single on Thursday night, slamming a three-run homer off Suns reliever Eric Stultz. Knox's sixth-inning blast down the left-field line broke open a tight game and propelled the Stars to an 8-3 lead.
Brandon Gemoll drove in his first run of the year with a sixth-inning double, and Chris Barnwell knocked in another with a single in the fifth. Cory Hart singled twice, stole two bases, drove in one and scored another, and Brian Moon doubled twice in four at-bats, including a second-inning shot down the left-field line for the 4,000th double in the Stars' 19-year history.
Stars right-hander Ben Hendrickson (1-0) picked up the win in his first start of the season, tossing five innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks while fanning two. Heath Totten (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering four earned runs on seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.
Game three of the series matches Stars lefty Luis Martinez (0-0) against Suns right-hander Alfredo Gonzalez (0-0). The first 1,500 fans in attendance at the Joe receive a Don Mincher bobblehead doll courtesy of McDaniel and McDaniel Attorneys. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
