Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK - The Tennessee Smokies have announced that Smokies Stadium in conjunction with Mystic Mountain Media will play host to the first annual Smoky Mountain All-Star Classic presented by Your High School Sports.com on Saturday, June 6 at 4:00 p.m. prior to the Smokies' home game that evening against the Birmingham Barons. Included among the festivities will be a media day, followed by a Home Run Challenge before the all-star contest gets underway.

"We're ecstatic to announce this tremendous event, and we're looking forward to making this a day to remember for all of these talented young players," said Smokies Vice President Chris Allen. "East Tennessee has proven to be a great spot for baseball talent and it will be outstanding to have the best of that group together on one field."

"We're very excited to be working together with the Smokies for what should be a memorable day," added Roddy Woods, President of Mystic Mountain Media. "We believe with this event we can make something very special for high school baseball in the East Tennessee area and hope that we will be able to make this an annual event."

The contest will feature the top high school senior baseball players from around the East Tennessee area competing at Smokies Stadium, showcasing the strong talent the area has to offer. Players will be available for media interviews beginning at 1:00 p.m. before the game, with the Home Run Derby Challenge following prior to the game. The region's best sluggers will have a chance to showcase their power in the competition, with the challenge co-presented by the Tennessee Smokies and Mystic Mountain Media.

The winner of the Home Run Challenge will be presented with an award courtesy of the Smokies, while the Calhoun's Most Valuable Player Award for the first annual Smoky Mountain All-Star Classic will also be handed out after the contest. Trophies for both the Home Run Challenge winner and the game's Most Valuable Player will also be provided to those recipients by Dinger Bats, with the winners also recognized later in the evening during the Smokies' game against Birmingham.

Smokies Stadium over the past few years has served as a venue for several high school baseball contests, including most recently the Fighting Irish Spring Classic on April 21, which featured a doubleheader that included matchups between Knoxville Christian School and Christian Academy of Knoxville, as well as a nightcap tilt between Knoxville Catholic and Gatlinburg-Pittman high schools. This event will mark the first time Smokies Stadium has served as host to a high school all-star competition.

The Smoky Mountain All-Star Classic will take place on Saturday, June 6 prior to the Smokies' regularly scheduled matchup against the Birmingham Barons, and begin at 4:00 p.m. ET. Fans who purchase tickets to either the Smoky Mountain All-Star Classic or the Smokies' regularly scheduled game will be admitted to both of the day's events. Gates will be opened that day at approximately 3:00 p.m. and will remain open throughout the evening.

The first 1,000 fans through the gates that day will receive a pink Smokies cap, with the giveaway beginning when gates open at 3:00 p.m. Fans who are hoping to ensure receipt of a cap are strongly encouraged to arrive early due to the change in the time of gates opening.

Tickets for that night's Smokies game, and all other remaining home contests, are now available and can be purchased online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300.
