Knoxville Smokies News Release
Mobile, Ala.- A night after being shutout, the Smokies returned the favor with a 2-0 win over Mobile (24-25, 53-64) Sunday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. Josh Axelson (1-1) scattered four hits over six innings and Mike Lyons worked a perfect 9th for his 30th save as Tennessee (29-19, 64-54) took a 2-1 series lead.
Tennessee got all the offense it would need in the sixth against Chris Oxspring (8-4). Axeslon led off with a walk and advanced to second on a Shaun Boyd single. Dan Moylan bunted to first baseman Joe Gerber, who attempted to force Axelson at third but instead threw wide allowing the game winning run on an error. Following an intentional walk to Bucky Jacobsen, Papo Bolivar deliverd a bases loaded single to plate Boyd with the second run.
Axelson struck out seven over six innings and was followed by Josh Kinney, who struck out four over two innings. Mike Lyons picked up his second save of the series by retiring the side in order in the ninth.
Chris Narveson (3-0, 2.08) - who was expected to start Sunday but hadn't yet served the required seven days on the disabled list - will start Monday night for the Smokies against Roger Deago (7-7, 4.09).
