Smokies Release 2012 Game Schedule

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce today the release of the team's 2012 game schedule. The Smokies will begin the season on the road Thursday, April 5, against the Chattanooga Lookouts and open at Smokies Park on Tuesday, April 10, against the Jackson Generals.

Notable home games for the Smokies next year will include an Independence Day celebration game on Wednesday, July 4, against the Jacksonville Suns and the team's home finale against the Mobile BayBears on Tuesday, August 28. The team will conclude their 2012 season on the road against the newest addition to the Southern League, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, on September 3.

The Blue Wahoos will replace the Carolina Mudcats as the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in 2012. The Mudcats will continue to play in Zebulon, N.C. in the Carolina League.

The Southern League will also realign their divisions for the 2012 campaign. The Birmingham Barons will move to the North Division and join the Chattanooga Lookouts, Huntsville Stars, Jackson Generals and Tennessee Smokies. The South Division will include the Jacksonville Suns, Mississippi Braves, Mobile BayBears, Montgomery Biscuits and Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The Southern League All-Star Game is set to come to Smokies Park in 2012 and is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19. This will be the third time the mid-summer classic has come to Smokies Park, first since 2002.
