Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - Mike Lyons tossed a scoreless 9th inning and earned his franchise record tying 27th save of the season as Tennessee (25-15, 60-50) topped Orlando (17-23, 49-60) 2-1 Saturday night at Smokies Park. Lyons' save, in front of a season high crowd of 6,603, tied him with 2001 Smoky Jarred Kingrey with 29 regular season games remaining.
The Smokies pulled out a late inning victory for the second straight night with a three-hit seventh inning. Bucky Jacobsen led off the inning with a double and was driven in by a Yadier Molina single. Kevan Burns was hit by a pitch and scored the winning run on a Chris Weekly single to right field. Jason Cromer (L, 0-1), making his Double A debut, allowed just two runs over seven innings.
Nick Stocks (8-6) lasted through seven innings and allowed only one run on five hits. The run came in the third inning when B.J. Upton reached on a single to left, stole second and was knocked in by Jonny Gomes. Stocks only gave up one more hit after the score, before B.R. Cook took his place in the eighth inning.
The Smokies will host the O-Rays in the final game of the four game series tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. Juan Pena (4-4) will face Gerardo Garcia in the afternoon contest. Garcia threw the only 9-inning no-hitter in the history of Smokies Park last year as an O-Ray.
