Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – The Mobile BayBears managed just nine hits combined in their double-header against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx as they were swept Saturday night, 1-0 and 5-1.

Game one saw a great pitcher's duel between the BayBears Chris Rojas and West Tenn's Jason Szuminski. Rojas (5-7) took the tough loss as he allowed just one run on three hits in a complete game, while striking out five. Szuminski was just a little better as he threw five shutout innings at the BayBears.

The lone run in the first game came in the top of the third inning for the Diamond Jaxx. After Lukas McKnight walked he was sacrificed to second and moved to third on an infield groundout. Donnie Hood then hustled out an infield single, scoring McKnight from third.

Game two did not work out any better for Mobile. The Diamond Jaxx slapped 13 hits in the seven-inning contest against three BayBears pitchers. Roger Deago started and took the loss. Deago (6-7) was only around for three and one-third innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven base hits. R.D. Spiehs was first out of the pen for the BayBears and he allowed a run on two hits in his one and two-thirds innings. Mike Bumstead pitched the final two frames and allowed two runs on four Diamond Jaxx hits.

The BayBears only run of the game, and the night, came in the bottom of the fifth. Jake Gautreau hit a solo homerun over the wall in right-center field. The blast was Gautreau's 10th of the season.

Between games the BayBears along with Mitchell Homes, WABB-FM, and WPMI TV-15 gave away a $125,000 Mitchell Home. Amy Vanderschoot drew the lucky key and won herself a new home. This was the second straight year for the promotion at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The BayBears and Diamond Jaxx will conclude their five-game series Sunday night at 7:05. Justin Germano (0-2) will get the start for Mobile against West Tenn's Mike Nannini (9-6).
