
Smokies Give up Late Runs in 4-2 Loss

KODAK, TN- The Tennessee Smokies approached today's double header tied with the Chattanooga Lookouts for the Southern League North lead at 35-29. The Smokies had multiple chances to take the lead, but fell short tonight. The second game of tonight's double header was postponed to 5:30 P.M. on Saturday due to inclement weather.
The Smokies started off strong tonight scoring one run in the first inning when Pete Crow-Armstrong scored on a throwing error by Pensacola's center fielder to make it 1-0 Smokies. The next inning, Pensacola DH Norel Gonzalez hit a line drive home run to right field, plating two runs and taking a 2-1 advantage.
Tennessee would tie the game up at two apiece in the bottom of the second inning when Nelson Maldonado cleared the left field wall for his fifth blast of the season. The game would remain tied until the top of the sixth when Will Banfield hit a double to the right field gap, scoring two runs to take a 4-2 Pensacola lead.
Blue Wahoos reliever Austin Roberts recorded a four out save, his second of the season to hold off the Smokies in the ninth inning. Pensacola took game two of the series tonight by a 4-2 final. The winning pitcher for Pensacola was Patrick Monteverde, tossing 5.2 innings and allowing just one earned run with four punchouts. Monteverde now leads the Southern League with seven victories.
Tennessee and Pensacola play game three tomorrow night at 7:00 P.M. Eastern Time.
