Smokies Face Jacksonville Tuesday

PEARL, Miss. - The Smokies relied on an Adam Haley two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning to Power Tennessee past Mississippi 6-4 Sunday night in front of 2,996 at Trustmark Park just outside of Jackson, Miss.

Dan Uggla and Chris Carter set the stage for Adam Haley with back-to-back singles in the 10th. After Jon Zeringue struck out trying to move the runners around, Marland Williams popped out to right field. With two down, Haley provided the Smokies with the offense necessary to win the game.

The Braves loaded the bases against reliever Mike Schultz. After picking up back-to-back singles and an intentional walk, Mississippi pinch-hitter Martin Prado popped a blooper up into shallow right field. Uggla called off both Jon Zeringue and Carter but dropped the ball, allowing the Braves to tie the game at four.

The Smokies took the lead early on a Jarred Ball RBI single in the first inning. Tennessee kept the offense flowing with two runs in the second frame. Dan Uggla provided the Smokies with an important fourth run when he homered out to left field to push Tennessee in front 4-0.

Tennessee returns home for a day off Monday before hosting Jacksonville in a three-game set at Smokies Park. Tuesday right-handed pitcher Dustin Nippert (5-3, 3.00) will square off against Jacksonville's Joel Hanrahan (6-6, 4.71). Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling the Smokies' box office at (865) 286-2300. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.smokiesbaseball.com.
