
Smokies Fall To Rays

Sevierville, Tenn. - Orlando plated four runs in the fifth inning against Tennessee starter Chris Narveson (L, 4-2) to take control en route to a 5-2 win Friday night at Smokies Park in front of 5,297 fans.
The Rays used RBI's from four different batters in the inning while stroking five hits. The scoring was highlighted by Amado German's RBI double and Danny Massiatte's RBI single as the Rays erased a 2-0 Tennessee lead.
Yadier Molina's two run homer against Scott Autrey (W, 4-3) in the third drove in Chris Weekly and gave the Smokies and early lead. It was Molina's first home run since May 30th at Carolina. Molina went two-for-four on the night, extending his season high hitting streak to twelve games.
Orlando added a run off Smokies reliever John Novinsky in the top of the seventh when German hit his second RBI double in as many at bats to put the Rays up 5-2.
Kevin Sprague pitched two innings of shutout ball and struck out two for the Smokies. Mike Lyons came in to pitch the ninth and retired the side in order.
Josh Parker came into the game to close for Orlando earning his team high 8th save of the season. Jose Veras also pitched 1 2/3 innings of flawless relief for the Rays, combining with Parker to retire the final 8 batters in order.
Tennessee faces off against Orlando in game three of a four game series Saturday night at 7:15. Julio Villalon (4-6, 4.26) will pitch for the Smokies against Jon Switzer (7-8. 3.50). Tennessee will also host Orlando on Sunday evening before embarking on its last road trip of the regular season.
