
Knott earns league's Hitter of the Week

Mobile, Ala. â The Southern League announced Friday that Mobile BayBears slugger Jon Knott was named the league's Hitter of the Week. Knott hit .412 (7-for-17), drove in six runs and scored five times. The Southern League All-Star also hit three homeruns, drew three walks, and was hit by a pitch three times. For the week, Knott had a .941 slugging percentage and a .542 on-base percentage.
Knott has had an MVP type season for the BayBears in 2003. He has 26 homeruns on the year, which ranks second in the Southern League. He is now the all-time, single-season record holder in hat category as he blew past John Curl's mark of 22 set in 1999.
Knott tied the BayBears record for homeruns in a month when he blasted nine in June. He led the Southern League in homeruns in both May and June. Knott leads the league in runs scored (78) and extra-base hits (55). He also ranks second in RBI (79), fifth in on-base percentage (.386) and third in slugging percentage (.510).
