Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Ten. - For the first time all season, the Biscuits (48-42) have split a series. Montgomery lost in their four-game series finale against the Tennessee Smokies (49-41) on Wednesday night at Smokies Stadium by a score of 4-2.
Genesis Cabrera (6-5) made his 18th start of the season, and after retiring the first batter of the game, the lefty surrendered back-to-back home runs to Trent Giambrone and Zack Short on back-to-back pitches to put Tennessee in front early, 2-0. Both home runs ended up over the left field wall.
Cabrera settled down after that, however, and spun six innings of two-run ball in the defeat, keeping the Biscuits in the game. Jake Cronenworth's RBI-single in the third off Smokies starter Michael Rucker (7-4) pulled Montgomery within one, but that was the only run the Butter and Blue could scratch against the former BYU right-hander over six frames.
In the eighth, Tennessee would add their final two runs on a Matt Krook wild pitch and a Giambrone sac fly to make it 4-1. And in the ninth, the Biscuits would tally their final run of the contest on a rocket of a home run by first baseman Nate Lowe-his eighth of the season, and fifth at Smokies Stadium. The longball was hit to straightaway center and left the ballpark before you could blink an eye, with an exit velocity of 112 miles per hour.
The Biscuits will try to get back on track on Thursday when they open up a five-game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts at 6:15 PM CT at AT&T Field with Sam McWilliams (3-5) set to take the mound against Anthony Marzi (0-6).
Once the Biscuits conclude their current nine-game road trip, the team will return to Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series with the Mississippi Braves on Wednesday, July 18 when there will be a Bucket Hat Giveaway. The series will also include Outdoors Night featuring a Hunter Camo T-Shirt Giveaway on Thursday, July 19, First Responders Night & MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 20, Millennial Night featuring a Participation Ribbon Giveaway & MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 21, and then a Mascot Poster Giveaway on Sunday, July 22.
