Smokies Add Lake To Roster Sunday

KODAK, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announced this afternoon that INF Junior Lake has been added to the Smokies active roster. In a corresponding roster move, INF Jonathan Mota has been promoted to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. Both moves are immediate, with Lake being available for today's series opener against the Birmingham Barons.
The Smokies active roster is set at 25, which is the Southern League maximum.
Lake, 22, will see his first action of the 2012 season. He spent the 2011 season splitting time between the High-A Daytona Cubs and Tennessee. In 67 games with the Smokies, Lake hit .248 (60-for-242) with 10 doubles, six home runs and 17 RBIs. On November 18, 2011, he was added to the Cubs' 40-man roster, and prior to the 2012 season was named the organization's eighth-best prospect by Baseball America.
Mota, 24, was batting .293 (17-for-58) with four doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs in 21 games for the Smokies in 2012. The Valencia, Venezuela native was signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2003.
