First Place Generals Rout Stars In Opener, 9-0

JACKSON, TENN. (MAY 6, 2012) - The Generals returned to Pringles Park Sunday and routed the Huntsville Stars, 9-2 to up their lead in the division back to three games. Jackson pitchers Andrew Carraway, Brian Moran and Moises Hernandez combined for the fourth shutout of the season.

Jackson opened the scoring in the third inning on a sacrifice fly from Nick Franklin that was followed up by a run scoring single by Denny Almonte placing the Generals up 2-0.

Jesus Sucre doubled home a run in the fourth inning and scored on a 2-run home run from Eric Campbell that made the score 5-0. Campbell was 3-for-4 on the night with his second long ball of the season.

The Generals finished off the scoring frenzy in the bottom of the seventh inning on a 2-run double by Joe Dunigan and 2-RBI single by Chris Pettit with two outs. Jackson coasted to the 9-0 victory. Dunigan was 2-for-4 on the night and now boasts a team-high 20 RBI's.

Starter Andrew Carraway (4-0) was lifted after 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits, striking out five and walking one. He is the first General pitcher to four wins and ranks second in the league. Brian Moran tossed 1 1/3 innings and Moises Hernandez pitched 2 innings to finish the shutout.

The Generals continue the five-game series Monday at Pringles Park against the Huntsville Stars, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. A to be determined starter will take the mound for Jackson against RHP Tyler Thornburg (3-0, 1.80) for Huntsville.
