
Pensacola Blanks Jackson, Ends Series Win Streak

PENSACOLA, FLA. (MAY 5, 2012) - The Generals had their five-series win streak snapped Saturday in the rubber match of the series, blanked by Pensacola 4-0 at Maritime Park. The Generals (19-11) won each of the first five series of the season until today. Pensacola (14-16) posted their second shutout win over Jackson in the series. Jackson is up two games over Huntsville in the Southern League North standings.
The Wahoos touched the scoreboard first on Saturday on some good base running from their leadoff man Ryan LaMarre. He stole second and then reached third and scored on a wild pitch by starter Danny Hultzen.
Pensacola made it 2-0 on a solo home run off the bat of P.J. Phillips in the bottom of the fifth inning. The homer was the first hit of the game for Pensacola.
Hultzen (2-3) left the game after just 4 1/3 innings, walking a season high seven batters and striking out four. Hultzen allowed two runs on just one hit and ended up taking the loss.
Two more runs were added by the Blue Wahoos in the sixth inning another home run from Cody Puckett and an RBI single by Yordanys Perez. Pensacola led 4-0.
The Blue Wahoos received seven shutout innings from J.C. Sulbaran (2-3) and he allowed just six hits while striking out nine General hitters.
Reliever Carter Capps struck out two in an inning of relief for Jackson and Stephen Pryor struck out the side in the bottom of the eighth. Pryor has a string of 15 consecutive innings going in which he has not allowed a run.
On a quiet night offensively for the Generals Nick Franklin and Johermyn Chavez contributed two hits each on Saturday.
The Generals will begin a five-game series today at Pringles Park against the Huntsville Stars, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. RHP Andrew Carraway (3-0, 3.06) takes the mound for Jackson against LHP Dan Merklinger (1-2, 6.75) for Huntsville.
