
Smitherman's Home Run Lifts Bats Over Braves, 3-1

Richmond, VA - Stephen Smitherman no-out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth lifted the Louisville Bats to a 3-1 win over Richmond in game two of their four-game series to even their records at 1-1.
Jesus Sanchez pitched two scoreless innings of relief to gain the win and Brian Mallette shutdown the Braves in the ninth for his first save of the year.
Bats' starter Brandon Claussen pitched six innings of three-hit ball, allowing one unearned run while striking out 11.
Reliever Buddy Hernandez suffered the loss, pitching two innings and allowing the home run in the ninth. Sam McConnell started for Richmond, going five innings while allowing just one run on four hits while striking out three.
The Braves were limited to just four hits on the night.
The third game of the series will be Saturday afternoon, as Joe Valentine gets the call for Louisville and Chuck Smith will start for Richmond.
