Bats Drop Opener 2-0 to Braves

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves pitching staff combined for 15 strikeouts in a two-hit, 2-0 shutout of the Louisville Bats.

Braves starting pitcher Travis Smith (1-0) went five strong innings allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out eight. Tim Drew, Mike Romano, Sean Fesh and Matt Whiteside combined for 4 innings of work striking out 7 and allowing only one walk. Whiteside finished the game picking up the save.

Richmond centerfielder Ryan Langerhans drove in one run and second baseman Nick Green scored on an error accounting for the only runs in the game.

RF Jacob Cruz and 2B Tim Hummel had the only hits for Louisville.

Tomorrow's pitching matchup features Louisville's Brandon Claussen and Richmond's Sam McConnel. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
