Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight the Buffalo Bisons look to rebound off Thursday's tough loss by taking on the Pawtucket Red Sox at 6:05 p.m. from McCoy Stadium. The Herd will send out 24-year old RHP Jeremy Guthrie, who will be making his first start of the season. Guthrie finished last season strong for Buffalo, going 2-1 with a 4.91 ERA. Before his call up to Buffalo on May 25th, he was dominating in Double-A Akron, going 6-2 with a 1.44 ERA in 10 games. He will be opposed by PawSox RHP Josh Stevens.
CROZIER KEEPS HITTING: Eric Crozier's bat hasn't cooled off yet from Spring Training. The first baseman hit a long home run in the top of the 7th inning of last night's game, en route to going 1-4 for the night. The ball actually landed on top of the storage shed behind the wall in straight away centerfield. Crozier had a very strong spring for Buffalo with .372 average and a team high 16 hits and 10 RBI. He also started the exhibition schedule with an 11-game hitting streak.
NEW FACE: The Buffalo Bisons welcomed a new member to the team before last night's season opener. Catcher Sandy Martinez joins the clubs after spending last season with Triple-A Omaha (Royals) and Campeche (of the Mexican League). He has played in 214 Major League games with Toronto, Chicago-NL, Florida and Montreal. Martinez has a .233 big league average with 6 home runs and 51 RBI. His best season was in 2000 with Triple-A Calgary, where he hit .300 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 86 games. Martinez was signed as a free agent on Wednesday.
