Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (June 13, 2006) - The way Kevin Slowey has pitched this year it just seems like he should win the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week honors each week, but he did receive the honor for the second time this season for the week of June 6-12.
Slowey dominated the Tampa Yankees and Clearwater Threshers by going 14.0 shutout innings allowing just seven hits while walking two and striking out 10 in two starts. He went 8.0 shutout innings against the Yankees allowing just four hits while striking out five and on Sunday he hurled 6.0 scoreless innings allowing three hits while walking two and striking out five.
The 22-year-old second round pick of the Minnesota Twins from 2005 is 4-1, 1.10 in 13 games this season. In 81.2 innings he has walked just seven and struck out 92 while the opposition is hitting a miniscule .166 against him. He leads the league in ERA, innings pitched and is second in strikeouts.
Slowey also won the award for the week of April 24-30. He is the only Miracle player to receive a Player of the Week Honor this season.
