JUPITER, FL- When a manager plans to intentionally walk a hitter, he doesn't expect the winning run to cross the plate in the process.

That's exactly what happened Tuesday night, as the Palm Beach Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the first place St. Lucie Mets, by the score of 5-3 at Roger Dean Stadium. The victory moves the Cardinals to just three games behind the Mets with five games remaining in the first half.

With second and third base occupied in the bottom half of the eighth and one out, reliever Marcelo Perez did the inexcusable, throwing a wild pitch while intentionally walking first baseman Mike Ferris. Perez (3-1) garnered the loss, taking over for starter Jake Ruckle.

Palm Beach (35-30) starter Nick Webber bounced back from two dreadful starts, with six solid innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while walking two and sending down three.

Dennis Dove (1-1) picked up the win, despite giving up a game-tying homerun in the eighth to second baseman Jose Cruz. All-Star closer Mike Sillman racked up his 13th save on the year.

The Cardinals were led offensively by lead-off man Sean Danielson, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
