York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution pounded out 16 hits en route to a 10-0 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Tuesday night at PeoplesBank Park. The win opens a seven-game homestand for the Revs (18-14) and a stretch of 13 home games in 17 days.
Jorge Martinez (2-2) more than earned the win with six sterling shutout innings. He allowed just four hits, hit a batter, and struck out three in one of his finest outings of the year. Gaby Hernandez (0-3) was stuck with the loss after surrendering the first four York runs on seven hits in four innings.
The Revs got things going immediately as Isaias Tejeda, Jason Repko, and Joel Guzman led off with a single each to make it 1-0 in the first inning.
Repko, Guzman, and Telvin Nash set the table in the third with a walk, double, and walk, respectively, bringing up Michael Burgess. In his first home game at PeoplesBank Park, Burgess cracked a bases-clearing double into the right center gap to make it 4-0.
York tacked on two more in the fifth as runs came in on a double play and a Tejeda single. Then in the sixth, Nash led off with a double and Burgess walked. Andres Perez followed with a bloop single to right to bring home Nash. Bryan Pounds did him three better, launching a towering home run over the right edge of the Arch Nemesis in left to put double digits on the board.
The runs were more than enough for Martinez and the bullpen. Frank Gailey, Michael Click, and Beau Vaughan combined to get the final nine outs for York.
Pounds led the way for the Revs, going 3-for-5 with two runs and the three-run homer on a night when every starter notched at least one hit. Perez also finished 3-for-5, while Tejeda and Guzman each notched two hits.
Gustavo Molina had two hits, including a double and a single off the Nemesis, to lead the Blue Crabs (11-20).
Notes: Six scoreless innings give Martinez an ERA of 3.00 in 168 career innings with York, tied for fifth in franchise history (Edward Paredes). With three more hits, Perez is now four shy of 500 in a Revolution uniform and five away from 1,000 professional hits. Tejeda now has 10 multi-hit games in May and has bumped his average up to .361 on the year. York's 16 hits fell one short of a season-high. The victory was the most lopsided of the season for the Revs, and tied the fifth biggest shutout victory in team history. It was their most lopsided shutout win since a 12-0 decision vs. Camden on July 23, 2014. The Revs have now scored 98 runs in 15 home games (6.5), including 32 runs in their last three home contests. Matt Neil gets the call for the Revs against Jon Leicester of the Blue Crabs on Wednesday night at PeoplesBank Park. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call.
