
SLC Stars Finalize 2023-24 Coaching Staff

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official GLeague affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today that Isaiah Fox, Bret Burchard,James Mays, and Jia Perkins will serve as assistant coaches for Steve Wojciechowski during his first year as the team's head coach. Justin Mazzulla will serve as assistantcoach/video coordinator, and Torin Dorn will be the team's player developmentassociate/assistant coach. Stars General Manager Marquis Newman, who also serves as the director of scouting for the Utah Jazz, returns for his second season leading basketball operations. Jonathan Rinehart will return as team president for his seventh season, and enters his nineteenth season with the Jazz organization.
Wojciechowski (commonly known as "Wojo"), the former Marquette head coach and longtime Duke assistant, was named the Stars head coach on June 2, becoming the team's fifth head coach since relocating to Salt Lake City in 2016.
Fox joins Wojciechowski's coaching staff after most recently serving as an assistant coach for four seasons with the Delaware Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers affiliate). The former Arizona Wildcat forward's prior coaching experience includes one season as a player development coach with the Los Angeles Lakers and two seasons as an assistant coach of the Laker's G League affiliate team, the South Bay Lakers.
Burchard joins the Stars staff with previous head coaching experience from the Phoenix Suns' former G League team, the Northern Arizona Suns from 2018-20. The Columbia, Mo., native worked within the Suns organization serving in various roles over 10 years, including player development assistant and video coordinator. Prior to his time with the Suns, Burchard began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Taylor University, located in Upland, Ind.
Mays begins his coaching career with the Stars after a 10-year professional playing career overseas, as well as a season in the former NBA Development League (now G League). The 2013 NBA D-League All Star spent the 2012-13 season with the Springfield Armor (then Brooklyn Nets affiliate), Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate), and Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat affiliate). The North Carolina native owns two overseas career championships as he helped guide the Shaanxi Wolves to their first NBL championship in 2015, and again in the Korean League in 2018 with
the Changwon LG Sakers. The former Clemson Tiger also participated in multiple NBA training camps and summer leagues, including as a member of the Jazz entry in the 2013 Orlando Pro Summer League.
Perkins joins the SLC coaching staff after most recently serving as associate head coach for the Cal State LA women's basketball team (2019-2023). She owns an accomplished 13-year WNBA playing career and played professionally overseas in the International Basketball Federation. The former WNBA All-Star was a part of the 2017 WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx team. Prior to her time with the Lynx, Perkins was a member of the WNBA's All-Defensive Second Team in 2013 with the San Antonio Stars and was named an All-Star in 2009 during her time with the Chicago Sky. The New York native received a gold medal in the USA World Championship in 2002.
Additionally, Mazzulla will serve as assistant coach/video coordinator for the staff following his collegiate playing career at Vermont and George Washington and a season as a graduate assistant for the University of Rhode Island.
Dorn joins the staff after a standout college career at N.C. State and professional stints in the Polish Basketball League and Czech National Basketball League. He spent last season as a graduate manager at his alma mater before taking an assistant coaching position with the Stars.
Michelle Anumba joins the Stars support staff from the WNBA Las Vegas Aces where she served as team athletic trainer for the last four seasons. The former Duke University shot put athlete joins in a dual role with both the Jazz and Stars as director of sports performance.
Returning from last year's Stars staff are Pete Clark, director of basketball operations; Denzel Stovall, strength & conditioning coach; La'Donna Bonner, head athletic trainer; Gabe Long, head of team security; and Chris Simonsen, equipment manager.
Wojciechowski and the staff begin their first season at the helm of the Stars when the 2023-24 season tips off at the Santa Cruz Warriors (Golden State affiliate) on November 11 before making their home debut on Nov. 13 vs. G League Ignite.
