Alabama Slammers News Release
Pelham â Playing in their second of four games in as many nights, the Alabama Slammers defeated the Miami Manatees 4-2 in front of a packed arena in Pelham, Alabama.
The Slammers pulled out to an early 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, getting goals from Jaro Kresec and Doug Lawrence. But the Manatees pulled it within one goal at 16:52 when Josh Liebenow scored on a partial break-away.
Alabama got back on the board in the second period on a goal by Mike Craigen, but Zdnek Vanc's power-play goal at 17:36 pulled the Manatees back within one goal.
Despite playing with only 11 skaters, the Manatees hung in to the very end against the Alabama Slammers, but Doug Lawrence's empty-net goal with one second remaining put away the Manatees for good.
Manatees goaltender Mark Gowan made 35 saves in the loss, while James Ronayne stopped 30 shots in the win. The Slammers take on the Manatees again on Saturday at the Pelham Civic Complex. It's Fox 6 family night where fans can purchase four tickets, four cokes, and four hot dogs for only $39.
Tickets can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, or by calling 715-6000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Groups of ten or more can order their tickets through the Slammers office by calling 328-7825.
