Miami Manatees News Release
Miami â Playing in their first of three games in as many nights, the Manatees fell to the Alabama Slammers 4-2 in front of a packed arena in Pelham, Alabama.
The Slammers pulled out to an early 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game, getting goals from Jaro Kresec and Doug Lawrence. But the Manatees pulled it within one goal at 16:52 when Josh Liebenow scored on a partial break-away.
Alabama got back on the board in the second period on a goal by Mike Craigen, but Zdnek Vanc's power-play goal at 17:36 pulled the Manatees back within one goal.
Despite playing with only 11 skaters, the Manatees hung in to the very end against the Alabama Slammers, but Doug Lawrence's empty-net goal with one second remaining put away the Manatees for good.
Manatees goaltender Mark Gowan made 35 saves in the loss, while James Ronayne stopped 30 shots in the win. The Manatees take on the Slammers again on Saturday, before heading to Jacksonville Sunday night.
The Miami Manatees face off against the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and Orlando Seals in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games are broadcast on www.irn.fm.
Individual and Group Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825) or visit www.miamimanatees.com.
