Slammers Walk off in Season Finale

Joliet, IL- The Joliet Slammers (42-54) finished their season with a walk off win against the Rockford Aviators (49-47) in twelve innings.

Rockford placed a run on the board in their first at bat against Andrew Strenge. C Cameron Garfield reached on an infield single. CF Michael Hur was hit by a pitch. DH Danny Stienstra was out on a ball hit to the right side, both runners moved up a base. 1B Devon Rodriguez laced one to a diving Max Casper at second, the ball popped out of his glove and Garfield scored, 1-0 Aviators.

The Slammers tied the game up in the second. DH Jeremy Nowak singled up the middle. RF Hunter Ridge drew a walk. 1B Jack Cleary singled to left and loaded the bases. 2B Max Casper showed patience drawing a walk of his own which forced in Nowak to make it 1-1.

The Aviators grabbed the lead in the sixth. Michael Hur singled to left and stole second. A batter later, with Hur on third Devon Rodriguez singled to right for an RBI. 2-1 visitors.

One swing of the bat tied the game in the bottom half for the Slammers. Jeremy Nowak homered for the third time this year which tied the game at two.

Free baseball at Silver Cross Field as we jump ahead to the eleventh inning tied at two with Navery Moore still on the mound from the eighth. Per Frontier League rules, a runner is placed at second base to start the inning from the eleventh inning on. RF Dusty Robinson was that runner who tagged and advanced to third on a SS Brian Bistagne fly ball to right. After 3B Elijah Trail struck out, LF Anthony Renteria singled to give Rockford a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom half Hunter Ridge was placed at second. Jack Cleary and Max Casper were both retired by reliever Paul Lujan. SS Alfredo Rodriguez came through with a bloop single to center, Michael Hur's throw to the plate was late and the Slammers tied it at three.

Navery Moore's only hiccup in the twelfth was a walk to Michael Hur but no damage would be done.

With Paul Lujan (1-2) still on the mound for the Aviators and just about four hours later, CF Carter Bell was placed at second base. 3B Mike Garza wasted no time with the game winning RBI single that scored Bell diving headfirst and a dogpile of Garza by his teammates, Slammers walk it off 4-3.

Our M & M Bank Player of the Game was the winning pitcher Navery Moore (1-2). He went five innings in relief, gave up one run on two hits while walking three and striking out six. The Slammers finish the year 42-54, 23-26 at home and 2-2 in games decided in extra innings. See the notes section for individual stat leaders.
