Slammers Two Runs Hold up against Boomers

Schaumburg, IL- The Joliet Slammers (25-36) manufacture two runs against the Schaumburg Boomers (25-37) and take game two of their three game series 2-1 behind stellar pitching on Wednesday afternoon.

The Slammers had chances to score in the top of the second and third innings, putting runners in scoring position in each frame but failing to push one across against pitcher Raul Jacobsen.

After struggling to get a runner on in the first three frames, the Boomers scored a run off Kevin Walter in the fourth inning. With two outs CF Alexi Colon doubled to second. A wild pitch from Walter with RF Kyle Ruchim at the plate allowed Colon to score, putting the Boomers up 1-0.

The Slammers answered with a run in the sixth inning against Jacobsen. With one out 3B Mike Garza singled and moved to second on a 1B Carlos Lopez base-knock to right. With runners at the corners, LF Phil Bates hit a slow roller to the left side of infield. Garza scored as Bates grounded into the fielder's choice, knotting the game up at 1-1.

The Slammers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning. DH Hunter Ridge walked to lead off. Catcher Jack Cleary singled and both base runners moved up on Casper's sacrifice bunt. With two in scoring position, CF Charlie White hit a slow roller to the Boomer's first baseman. White was out, but Ridge scored on the play giving the Slammers the 2-1 lead.

Kevin McNorton combined with Spencer Medick to pitch a scoreless seventh inning while McNorton tossed a perfect eighth. Navery Moore shut down the Boomers in the ninth to preserve the Slammers 2-1 victory. Kevin Walter (2-6) earned the win giving up one run in six innings on five hits and four walks. He also struck out four and earned our Merchants and Manufacturers Bank Player of the Game Honors.

Notes: Mike Garza extended his road hitting streak to 22 games...Garza also recorded his fifth game with at least three hits.... Kevin Walter became the third straight Slammers starting pitcher to toss a quality outing... The Slammers are 5-0 against the Boomers this year... Five of their eight road wins have come against Schaumburg...The Slammers go for the sweep of the Boomers on Thursday with the first pitch at 6:35pmCT...
