Joliet Slammers News Release

(Traverse City, MI)- The Slammers pulled off the largest comeback in franchise history Tuesday night, mounting seven unanswered runs to win the series finale with Traverse City 7-6.

Traverse City put up a run in the second off a solo home run by Sean Gusrang to take a 1-0 lead. They piled on in the second with five runs, courtesy of an RBI double by Chase Burch, a two-run home run by Jeff Flagg, and a Marcus Nidiffer double to make it a six-run advantage.

Joliet then mounted a seven-run comeback to win the ballgame, the largest comeback in the history of the Slammers. They started chipping away in the fourth when Sean Estand doubled, and another run scored on a balk. In the fifth, Erik Lis slapped a run-scoring double, and David Christensen put Joliet within two off single. Joliet powered back to tie it in the eighth when Estand lofted a sacrifice fly, and Patrick Norris knocked an RBI double.

The game remained scoreless through nine, and the 6-6 tie was finally broken in the top of the twelfth when Kyle Maunus, who picked up the game winning hit in Monday night's contest, went yard on a no-doubt homer to make it 7-6.

Steven Maxwell gave up six through six innings, while Justin Albert threw five shutout innings for the win. Amalio Diaz entered in the twelfth to secure the save.

The Slammers now visit Schaumburg for the back half of their road trip. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse calling the action.
