Slammers Fall to Windy City in Game One

JOLIET, IL - With baseball returning to DuPage Medical Group Field, the Slammers looked to start the series with Windy City with a win. Right-hander Cam Aufderheide took to the hill for Joliet. Victory was out of reach tonight for the Slammers as Windy City took the win with a final score of 7-2 winning game one of the four game series.

With a scoreless 3 innings to kick off the game, the Slammers put up one run in the bottom of the fourth for the 1-0 lead. Terry Daniels put the ball out for a double driving in Lane Baremore for the run. Daniels would be put out at third in a 8-4-5 play for the last out of the inning.

Windy City soon responded in the top of the sixth with 6 runs, giving them a big lead late in the game. 2 RBIs off a single from Brynn Martinez would let Rob Weissheier and Zac Taylor cross the plate for two unearned runs. Payton Robinson would hit a single driving home John Sechen for another unearned run. A double by Hunter Wells would allow two more unearned runs by Zach Racusin and Brynn Martinez. The Slammers would chip away at the 6-1 lead by driving home one run in the bottom of the sixth. Terry Daniles would advance to first on a fielder's choice play to get Dave Matthews out at third, this would allow Alonzo Jones to cross the plate putting the tally at 6-2.

The sixth inning would also see a pitching change for the Slammers as Brett Smith would come from the bullpen to lead the Joliet crew. Smith would relieve Aufderheide after five and a half innings. Aufderheide would see 27 batters and toss 4 strikeouts while on the mound. Smith's time on the mound was short-lived as Keon Taylor would take charge of the mound in the top of the eighth inning.

The top of the eighth would see Windy City further extend their lead by one. An RBI single by Payton Robertson would score John Sechen from third. The tally at the end of the inning was 7-2.

In the top of the ninth Ryan Anderson would relieve the righty sidewinder Taylor. Taylor would see two innings on the mound facing eight batters. The at bat for the Slammers in the bottom of the ninth inning looked hopeful as two runners were on base with one out. Tyler Depreta-Johnson at third and Brian Parreira on first. Braxton Davidson came up to bat looking to drive in some runs but a 6-4-3 double play would put an end to the game giving the Thunderbolts the 7-1 win. Tonight's loss set the Slammers season record at 19-34.

Join us for our next home game on Wednesday, July 27th for a double header against Windy City. Game one will kick off at 5:30 p.m. Both games will be seven innings in length.
