College Park Skyhawks News Release
COLLEGE PARK, GA -The College Park Skyhawks picked up their first home win on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Long Island Nets 101-96 behind 26 points from Hawks assignee Tyrone Wallace. With the win, the Skyhawks move back to the .500 mark (3-3) on the season. Video highlights of the game can be foundÃÂ here.
Wallace made an immediate impact, scoring seven points in the first quarter to help the Skyhawks take a 31-28 lead into the second. Four straight points from Armoni Brooks put College Park up five with just over four minutes left to play in the first half and the Skyhawks took a 58-56 lead at halftime.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm in the third, until Brooks was fouled on a three-point attempt. He knocked down the free throw, good for three points, and good to spark an 8-0 Skyhawks run and take a 77-68 lead into the final quarter. Long Island refused to go away quietly, and took the lead briefly with just under nine minutes to play. Kenny Gabriel hit a three to tie it up at 80 and the two teams traded buckets down the stretch. Wallace hit a free throw with 21 seconds left to play to give the Skyhawks a three-point advantage, and the home team held on to grab their first win at home.
Wallace led all scorers with 26 points, including a 3-5 showing from the three-point line, while Brandon Goodwin added 16 points. Charlie Brown, Jr. finished with 13, including six in the fourth quarter, while Jordan Sibert and Armoni Brooks added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
"At halftime, we talked about locking in and staying focused," said Sibert. "We didn't want to drop off after the break... We all believe in each other and in the fourth quarter we were able to keep our composure and get the lead back."
The Skyhawks return to action on Nov. 27, taking on the Capital City Go-Go on the road in a 7 p.m. start.ÃÂ For more information on the Skyhawks inaugural season and to register for updates, please visitÃÂ CPSkyhawks.com.
