Sussex Skyhawks News Release

AUGUSTA, N.J. - The Sussex Skyhawks snapped a tie game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to pick up a 4-2 win over the Atlantic City Surf on Friday night in the first of a three game series at Skylands Park.

Second baseman Chris Brown led off the eighth with an infield single. Brown advanced to second on a wild pitch, and to third on a fly ball to center. Catcher Yohanny Valera then chopped a single up the middle past a drawn-in infield to plate Brown with the go-ahead run. Shortstop Kevin Rios grounded into a fielder's choice scoring Valera from third to give Sussex a 4-2 advantage.

Roger Lincoln picked up the win after working two scoreless innings of relief for Sussex. Lincoln walked no one and struck out three. Sussex starter Gary Galvez gave up just two runs on three hits, but did not factor into the decision. Matt Petrusek worked the ninth to pick up his 21st save of the season. Walker Whitley took the loss for Atlantic City.

Atlantic City snapped a 1-1 game in the top of the sixth when William Plaza stroked a two out single to center, scoring Eddie Kim from second to give the Surf a 2-1 lead.

Sussex tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth when center fielder Ron Perodin chopped an infield single over the pitcher's mound, scoring Brown.

Atlantic City and Sussex will play the second game of the three game series at Skylands Park on Saturday at 5 p.m.
