Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped their third-straight game to the Sacramento River Cats, falling 12-4 in front of 1,947 fans at Security Service Field.

The Sox would strike first on a first inning solo home run by Willie Taveras to take a 1-0 lead.

From that point forward the game was dominated by the River Cats. An RBI single in the second by Shane Peterson tied the game at one. In the third inning, the River Cats exploded for seven runs on a two run double by Jai Miller, a three-run home run by Matt Carson and a two-run home run by Anthony Recker to take an 8-1 lead. The Sox didn't help themselves in the inning as they committed three errors behind starter Billy Buckner.

The River Cats would tack on single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and two more runs in the seventh on a two-run home run by Eric Sogard.

The Sox were never able to recover from the seven-run third, scoring just three runs the rest of the way. Two of those runs came in the fourth on a Mike Jacobs sacrifice fly and an RBI double by Matt Macri.

Buckner (1-2, 6.30) took the loss for the Sox allowing nine runs (two earned) on nine hits in 4.0 innings as the Sox fell to 26-33 on the year. Yadel Marti (3-1, 4.91) picked up the win for Sacramento allowing three runs on six hits in 5.0 innings as the River Cats improved their PCL-best record to 39-20.

The Sox will look to salvage a win in the series finale Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM MT.
