Luna Home Run in 12th Completes Sweep for Redbirds

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Aaron Luna hit the game-winning home run off the left field foul pole in the 12th inning leading the Memphis Redbirds (28-30) to a 2-1 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (24-35) before 7,921 Tuesday afternoon at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.

Redbirds reliever Raul Valdes (4-2) pitched two hitless innings in the 10th and 11th innings for the winning decision. RedHawks reliever Daniel Meszaros (0-1) gave up the game-winning home run in the 12th inning for the losing decision. Victor Marte (7) saved the game with a scoreless 12th inning for Memphis.

Memphis scored for the fourth consecutive game in the first inning. Pete Kozma singled, moved to second on a double from Andrew Brown and scored on a Nick Stavinoha double for a 1-0 lead.

The RedHawks countered with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Anderson Hernandez singled, moved to second on a ground ball, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a two-out double from Koby Clemens for a 1-1 score.

Redbirds starter Mitchell Boggs allowed two first inning hits. Combined with the Redbirds bullpen, Oklahoma City did not record a hit after the first inning until the bottom of the 12th.

RedHawks starter Gustavo Chacin allowed the first inning run and five hits in a six inning effort with one walk and two strikeouts without a decision. The RedHawks bullpen did not allow a hit until the 12th inning.

Memphis broke the 1-1 deadlock in the 12th inning when Aaron Luna belted a one-out solo home run off the left field foul pole, opening a 2-1 score.
