Sky Comeback Falls Short to Aces, 76-83, in Chicago

May 28, 2022 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) - Chicago Sky News Release

This game is a match up between the defending champion Chicago Sky and the Las Vegas Aces, who hold the league's best record so far in 2022, coming in at 7-1

This game features two of just nine active former WNBA MVPs, Candace Parker and A'ja Wilson

A 2016 Championship Reunion: The Sky's Candace Parker, assistant coach Ann Wauters and the Aces' Chelsea Gray and Riquina Williams won a championship together as players on the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016. Williams did not play in 2016 due to a ruptured Achilles, but was a member of the Sparks roster. The Sky's assistant coach Tonya Edwards was also a member of the team as an assistant coach

It's the first career meeting of Sky head coach James Wade and Aces head coach Becky Hammon. Wade was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Silver Stars (now the Las Vegas Aces) from 2012 to 2016, including the last three seasons of Hammon's WNBA career

NEXT UP: The Sky will play its third consecutive game at home against the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, May 31. Tipoff at Wintrust Arena is at 6:00 p.m. CT and will be aired on ESPN2 and TSN.

The Mercury hold a 2-5 record, have lost four consecutive games and will play one more game before meeting the Sky on Tuesday: a road tilt against the Atlanta Dream tomorrow. The match-up with the Sky is the Mercury's last of a four game road trip. Skylar Diggins-Smith leads the Mercury averaging 19.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists. She made her return to the lineup during the Mercury's game on Wednesday against the Sparks after missing the last two games due to a non-COVID illness. Diana Taurasi averages 16.0 points and 4.7 assists for the Mercury while former Sky All-Star Diamond DeShields averages 15.3 points and 3.5 assists.
