Brockton Rox News Release

WORCESTER, MA - Brockton Rox Manager Chris Carminucci won his 200th game as a manager as the Rox took the first of four against the Worcester Tornadoes 8-4 on Friday night at Hanover Insurance Park in Worcester, MA.

RHP Freddy Flores turned in another strong outing and guaranteed that he will finish above .500 on the season with his sixth victory. On the heels of a complete-game, 2-1 loss a week ago to the same opponent, Flores allowed just one unearned run over his first seven innings on Friday night. He left the game in the eighth with two on and one out.

The Rox never trailed after scoring a first inning run. 2B Derek Kinzler who was a late addition to the lineup, hit a solo home run off of Worcester starter LHP Ryan Lobban to put Brockton in front 1-0. The lead remained intact until the unearned run Worcester scored in the fourth.

The teams took a 1-1 tie into the sixth where Brockton's offense broke open the score for the first time. The Rox opened the inning with three straight hits capped by 1B Clyde Williams' RBI double. Brockton loaded the bases and scored a pair of runs on ground outs in the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

In the seventh inning, Brockton pushed the lead to 5-1 on DH Palmer Karr's second RBI of the game.

When Flores departed in the eighth, the Brockton bullpen initially stumbled. LHP Brad Hertzler allowed an RBI single and a walk to load the bases before Carminucci turned to RHP Keith Noe. Noe retired the two batters he faced, with a run scoring on a sacrifice fly to cut the Rox advantage to 5-3.

In the ninth however, the Rox scored three times, capped by CF Chris Valencia's two-run triple to jump out to an 8-3 lead.

Closer RHP Jerry Dunn came on for the ninth after warming in the bullpen for most of the eighth inning. He allowed a run on back-to-back doubles, but shut the door in the series opening win.

The Rox and Tornadoes move the series to Brockton for Saturday. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM. RHP John Kelly (1-3, 6.84 ERA) will face Worcester's RHP Chris Farley (5-3, 3.68 ERA).
