Long Island Ducks News Release
(Sugar Land, Texas, June 27, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-3 on Saturday night in the fifth game of a six-game series at Constellation Field.
Sugar Land took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run to left field by Willy Taveras off of Ducks starter Andrew Barbosa. Long Island responded with two runs in the top of the second on Dan Lyons' RBI single and bases loaded walk to Bryan Sabatella by Skeeters starter Sean Gallagher.
The Skeeters jumped back in front by two with a run in the third and a run in the fourth. A solo homer by Taveras and a RBI single by Patrick Palmeiro did the damage. The Ducks closed to within a run in the sixth on a RBI triple to left-center by Dan Lyons. However, they were unable to plate the tying run.
Gallagher did not factor into the decision, lasting just three innings and giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Cory Van Allen (4-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out one. Andrew Barbosa (4-1) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in six innings. John Lujan collected his seventh save with a scoreless ninth.
Lyons led the Flock with three hits and two RBI, while Lew Ford and Blake Davis each added two hits.
