SUGAR LAND, Texas - Willy Taveras carried the Sugar Land Skeeters' offense past Long Island in a 4-3 win in front of 6,406 fans at Constellation Field. The former Houston Astro launched a pair of home runs to left in his first two at-bats to give the Skeeters their 12th-win in the last 13 games at home. The victory sends Sugar Land above .500 and improves its record to 32-31 on the year.

The Skeeters struck Long Island starter, Andrew Barbosa for two runs early in the game. Denny Almonte reached on a bunt single to first to lead off the home half of the first. Taveras blasted his third home run as a Skeeter with a two-run bomb to left, staking Sugar Land to an early 2-0 lead.

Sugar Land's starter, Sean Gallagher, struggled with his command early in the game. Through the first two innings, the right-hander threw 49 pitches and relinquished the lead in the top of the second. Jose Morales and Reegie Corona followed with back-to-back singles to right before a one-out single from Blake Davis loaded the bases. Dan Lyons deposited a single down the right field line, scoring one to give the Ducks their first run. Bryan Sabatella followed with a bases-loaded walk to tie the game.

Taveras launched his second home run of the evening with another solo shot to lead off the bottom of the third. The speedster became the first Sugar Land player to have a multi-home run game this year and regained the lead for the Skeeters, 3-2.

The Skeeters were able to expand on the newfound lead in the bottom of the fourth. Following a Kevin Russo walk, Johan Limonta grounded out to the pitcher when Russo was on the move to advance the runner to second. Patrick Palmeiro ripped a single into left to score Russo easily from second and increase the lead to 4-2.

Long Island struck reliever Derek Blacksher for a run in the top of the sixth. With one out and a runner on first, Davis grounded into a fielder's choice before Lyons drove him in on a triple to left-center, narrowing the score to 4-3.

Ramon Delgado, Adrian Martin and John Lujan combined to keep the Ducks off the scoreboard for the final three innings, securing the 4-3 victory. Lujan earned his team-leading seventh save of the season by scattering a single in the ninth.

Cory VanAllen earned his fourth win of the year and improved to 4-1 while Barbosa was tagged with his first loss of the season.
