SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters announced today that the club will host the Second Annual Skeeters Hot Stove Banquet on Thursday, January 30 from 6-9 p.m. at Constellation Field. In addition to a guest panel discussion among baseball greats, the Skeeters will honor the 2014 All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Player selections and the Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award, as chosen by the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association.
Leading the 2014 panel of guest speakers will be former Major Leaguer and Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti, as well as Houston Astros Legend Jimmy Wynn. Local sports broadcaster Brett Dolan will serve as emcee for the event, hosting an interactive and candid panel discussion. Houston area baseball, high school baseball and 2014 Skeeters updates will be just a few of the topics for all dinner attendees to enjoy.
In addition to the panel, the Skeeters will present awards to the 16 individual All-Greater Houston Preseason High School Baseball Player selections chosen by the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association. The final award of the evening will be the Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award, presented to one deserving high school baseball coach who has devoted his life to the development of baseball programs in the Houston area.
"Recognizing these players is a compliment for the hard work and athletic ability each has achieved at this point," said David Sitton, former president of the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association. "The Ray Knoblauch Coaching Award is also awarded to a coach who gives to the game of baseball in the same way Ray did for so many years. It's awesome that the Skeeters have chosen to honor these players and coaches and we consider it an honor to be a part of such a fantastic event."
The Skeeters will also hold a silent auction during the event benefitting the Deacon's Dugout Foundation. The Deacon's Dugout Foundation promotes youth education and healthy activities. Funds raised for the Foundation help youth related projects or experiences for the culturally, racially and economically diverse populations of those underserved in Fort Bend and surrounding counties.
"We're happy to provide an event to honor these players and coaches," said Skeeters General Manager Chris Jones. "We also look forward to this dinner being a great kick off to the Skeeters 2014 season and building even more excitement for the 2014 Atlantic League All-Star Game at Constellation Field."
Individual tickets for the dinner may be purchased for $75. Tables of 10 are also available for the dinner, listed at $750.
