Skeeters Fall in Pitcher's Duel vs. Tacoma

(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their series opener to the Tacoma Rainiers, 1-0, on Friday night at Constellation Field.

The Skeeters surrendered the only run of the night on a sacrifice fly from Jose Marmolejos in the ninth inning.

Hector Velazquez and Austin Pruitt combined to toss seven scoreless innings leading up to the eighth. Velazquez struck out five and allowed three hits through four innings, while Pruitt struck out two and allowed two hits through three frames.

Pruitt was making the sixth appearance of his MLB Rehab Assignment, and his fourth with the Skeeters. The three innings pitched, along with his 39 pitches, were both the most of his rehab stint thus far.

Josh James, who was also making an MLB Rehab appearance, was handed the loss, allowing a run on one hit through 1 1/3 innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, including two strikeouts, James allowed a leadoff single to Dillon Thomas in the ninth. Thomas came around to score on the Marmolejos sacrifice fly off right-hander Michael Kelly.

The Skeeters tallied three hits, matching their lowest total of the season. CJ Hinojosa recorded two of the hits, including his team-leading 18th double of the season.

Shane Carle received the win after tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Wyatt Mills picked up his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Nivaldo Rodriguez is set to take the mound for the Skeeters at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. Tacoma will send out right-hander Robert Dugger for the start.
