Sixty-Six Blades Alumni in the Pro Ranks in 08-09

Saskatoon Blades News Release


During the 2008-09 season the Saskatoon Blades saw 66 alumni playing in the professional hockey ranks, including 13 players on NHL team rosters.

Other leagues across the world that saw former Blades include the AHL, ECHL, CHL, IHL, and SPHL in North America, and professional leagues in Russia, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Among these, multiple players had notable achievements during the season. Mike Green (Blades 2000-2005), a defenseman with the Washington Capitals, is up for the Norris Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's top defenseman. Brett Jaeger (Blades 2002-2004), a goaltender with the Texas Brahmas, won the Ray Miron President's Cup, awarded to the champions of the CHL. Justin Keller (Blades 2001-2003) won the President's Cup as a forward with the SPHL Champion Knoxville Ice Bears. Marcus Paulsson (Blades 2002-2004) won the Le Mat Trophy, awarded to the SEL Champions, as a forward with Farjestads BK. And Justin Kelly (Blades 1998-2002), a forward with Bietigheim-Bissingen SC, took home the German 2nd Division Bundesliga Championship Trophy.
