Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino had a thrilling comeback 7-6 win at Lake Elsinore on Thursday after an eighth inning mound and fielding meltdown had them on the verge of being swept by the Storm. The 66ers scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning and moved into a tie with Lancaster for the second playoff spot in the Cal League's Southern Division with 11 games remaining in the regular season.

Inland Empire (65-63, 32-27) scored two in the first getting an RBI double from David MacKinnon who then scored on Richie Fecteau's single. DJ Jenkins knocked in a run with an infield hit in the second and Franklin Navarro delivered an RBI single to left in the third for a 4-1 lead. The 66ers led 4-2 heading into the eighth inning when the wagon's wheels got wobbly. Carlos Salazar entered on the mound in the eighth inning and walked the bases loaded. After collecting a strikeout, he then hit Storm shortstop Chris Baker with a pitch to bring in a run and make it 4-3. Mike Kaelin came into the game and promptly got two ground balls that each were misplayed for errors by the Sixers' infield. When the dust had settled Lake Elsinore (62-67, 28-31) had scored four times and batted around without a base hit and took a 6-4 lead. In the top of the ninth however, MacKinnon led off with a single (his third hit of the game to go along with a walk) and then moved to second on a groundout. Fecteau then belted a double to left to score MacKinnon and make it 6-5 with one out. David Bednar (2-4) then entered the game and Navarro slashed an RBI single to left to tie the game 6-6. Two batters later with two outs, Jenkins lashed a 3-2 pitched to right field and Navarro rumbled home with the go-ahead run. Kaelin (1-3) overcame the Sixers' fourth infield error of the night in the bottom of the ninth as well as hitting a batter with a pitch to secure the win for the Sixers.

The 66ers open a series at home versus Rancho Cucamonga on Friday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live on 66ers.com.
