Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Lancaster, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers finished the 2016 campaign with an 8-4 win at The Hangar on Labor Day Monday. The 66ers win in the season finale improved the clubs final record to 48-92 and they finished the second half 25-45.
The 66ers got four runs in the first aided by an error highlighted by an RBI single from Hutton Moyer and a two-run double from Taylor Ward. Inland Empire took a 5-1 lead in the second when Angelo Amendolare singled in a run.
The JetHawks (77-63, 42-28) scored three runs and each came on solo homers against IE starter Grayson Long. The first was an inside-the-park round trip for Osvaldo Duarte. Kyle Tucker tagged a solo shot in the fourth and Christian Correa got one in the fifth. Long improved to 2-1 as he allowed those three runs in five innings with one walk and six Ks.
Inland Empire broke the game open in the seventh as with two outs a rally started with a walk and an error. Zach Houchins then ripped a doubled to the wall in left for two RBI. Houchins finished the year on a nine-game hitting streak which matched his season-best. Ward then followed with an RBI single to make it 8-3. The JetHawks scratched out run in the ninth for the 8-4 final.
Oddly, the 66ers had some fun on the final day of the season as every player on the team used the same bat. That bat was good for eighth runs on 12 hits.
The 66ers open the 2017 season at San Manuel Stadium on April 6, 2017. To keep current with all Inland Empire 66ers' happenings visit 66ers.com frequently.
