Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Worcester collected six singles in a row in the first inning en route to an 8-4 victory Wednesday night against the Newark Bears. Chase Fontaine hit his first homerun of the season, and Nick Salotti hit his sixth homer in the last six games.

Ryan Bicondoa earned his second win of the season, while the Tornadoes defeated Jesse Estrada for the second time in 2011. Bicondoa went seven innings to register the "W," allowing seven hits and three runs (two earned). The side-arming righty fanned four and walked two.

Albert Ayala pitched a scoreless eighth inning, striking out one, walking one and giving up a hit. Rick Asadoorian struck out a batter in the ninth, allowing a couple of hits and one (earned) run.

Abraham Nunez, Chris Colabello, Mark Minicozzi, Alex Trezza, Salotti and Cameron Monger all singled consecutively in the first frame. Ryan Crespi's sacrifice fly made it 5-0 Worcester before Newark came to the plate. Fontaine's homer led off the fourth, putting the Tornadoes up 6-2, while Salotti's blast accounted for the final two runs for the siting team in the fifth.

Worcester has an off day before playing its next 10 games at home. Every single game in the home stand except for Sunday's 4:05pm start will be at 7:05pm, with the gates open at 6:00. The Pittsfield Colonials are in town for the first three games before the New Jersey Jackals visit for four. The Tornadoes wrap up the home stand with a three game set with the New York Federals before hitting the road for three games.
