Worcester 8, Newark 4
Worcester plated five runs in the first inning as the Tornadoes notched an 8-4 defeat of the Newark Bears. Designated hitter Nick Salotti led Worcester with three RBIs. Salotti singled in a run in the first inning and belted a two-run home run in the top of the fifth. Tornadoes SS Chase Fontaine went 2-for-3 at the plate with a solo homer, and C Alex Trezza doubled, scored two runs and had an RBI. Worcester starting pitcher Ryan Bicondoa was credited with the win. Bicondoa allowed two earned runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched while striking out four batters. For Newark, 3B Juan Martinez went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double and an RBI.
Brockton 6, New York 4
The Brockton Rox used a three-run seventh inning to earn a come-from-behind win against New York. The Federals struck first when DH Brad Jackson hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. Brockton trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh but rallied for three runs in the frame to grab a 5-4 lead. Center fielder Chris Valencia hit an RBI single for the Rox, and 3B Mike Torres hit a two-RBI single in the inning. The Rox added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Rox C Chris Grossman went 1-for-3 with a home run, and SS Dominic Ramos scored a run and had an RBI. Brockton starting pitcher Dustin Birosak tossed seven innings and allowed four runs on eight hits to earn the win.
Pittsfield 10, Quebec 1
Pittsfield starting pitcher Chad Paronto pitched a complete game and received plenty of run support as the Colonials rolled past Quebec 10-1. Paronto fanned nine hitters, scatterd 10 hits and allowed just one run to earn the win. Colonials DH Scott Knazek, LF Billy Mottram and 1B Angel Molina each had two RBIs in the game. Right fielder Jerod Edmonson went 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run for Pittsfield, and 3B Peter Fatse also homered in the game. Pittsfield used a five-run third inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead from which they never looked back. For the Capitales, 2B Seth Henry went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the loss.
