Great Falls Voyagers News Release

MISSOULA, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers erased an early four-run deficit, scoring nine times in the sixth and seventh frames to take a 13-9 win over the Missoula Osprey Saturday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.

Trailing 7-4 entering the sixth, the Great Falls (11-9) offense erupted for six runs, the most they have scored in any one inning thus far in 2014. The explosion started with a homer by Jackson Laumann off Osprey starter Tyler Bolton, Laumann's team-leading fourth blast of the year.

The homer was just the beginning for the Voyagers. Hunter Jones collected an RBI single to tie the game, then Zach Fisher gave Great Falls the lead with a two-run single. Jake Peter capped off the six-run frame by racing home on a Kevin Simmons (0-2) wild pitch.

Great Falls then added three more in the seventh. Chevy Clarke scorched a double to the gap in left-center to bring Jones home, and Fisher then added two more RBIs with a double, giving the Voyager backstop a four RBI night for the second consecutive Saturday.

The Osprey (10-10) managed to crawl closer in the seventh against the Voyager bullpen when Sergio Alcantara brought two in with a double. That was as close as Missoula got as the Voyager bullpen slammed the door over the last few frames.

It did not take long for the Missoula offense to get going against Voyager starter Brandon Brennan. Three batters into the contest, Justin Williams drove in the game's first run on a bounce out, and Kevin Cron then followed with a run-producing double. The next man up Trevor Mitsui then lifted a two-run homer to right to make it a four-run first for the Osprey.

Missoula tallied a single run in the second to chase Brennan, then notched another in the third against reliever Anthony Santiago (1-1) to build their early lead.

Great Falls stayed within striking distance early on, scoring runs in the second, third and fourth, highlighted by an opposite field homer from Jones to lead-off the third.

The Voyagers wrap-up their two-game series with the Osprey Sunday evening at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Great Falls will send right-hander Zach Thompson (0-1, 4.15) to the bump, while Missoula will counter with southpaw Gabriel Moya (2-0, 5.82). First pitch is set for 5:15 and coverage will begin at 5:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.

The Voyagers will return to Centene Stadium on Tuesday after an off day Monday to begin a seven-game homestand against the Ogden Raptors. For tickets to any game on the upcoming homestand call (406) 452-5311 or visit gfvoyagers.com.
